A TMT test is done to diagnose blockages in the arteries supplying the heart. TMT test is often called a poor man’s angiogram.it is well validated for the identification of coronary artery disease. It is relatively safe and inexpensive when compared
to angiograms. A person is subjected to running on a treadmill machine with ECG leads connected, the computer will record ECG changes at various stages of the test. Cardiologists will analyze the data and will give results accordingly.

Based on ECG changes, your cardiologist will give a report as negative or positive. Sometimes he may give the report inconclusive if the person could not complete the test or ECG changes are uninterpretable.

A negative test means no significant st changes in the ECG during the TMT test. It indicates that blood
flow to the heart is not compromised.

A positive report means the patient develops specific st changes in ECG during TMT test, it indicates that there is an inadequate blood supply to the heart

You should also be aware of the fact that the TMT test is not 100% accurate. False-positive rates and false-negative rates are not
uncommon. You can have a positive test report even though you do not have any blockages. It is quite common in people with low hemoglobin or high blood pressure. So TMT test result interpretation should take into consideration medical history and risk factors also.
